Description

This super quality chrome finished ships or marine style bulkhead clock which is superb quality having a chain fusee movement and is by the renowned 'KELVIN, WHITE & HUTTON LONDON'. This is a super quality heavy piece. The dial is nicely set out with Roman Numerals and there is subsidiary second dial and above 'XII' there is the lever to regulate the clock. Also over the dial is a lovely piece of thick beveled glass which sets it off beautifully.

KELVIN, WHITE & HUTTON, LONDON. Kelvin, White & Hutton are listed as working at 11 Billiter Street, London from 1904 to 1937. The firm was founded by William Thompson who later became Lord Kelvin. At age 21 he was offered the Professorship of Natural Philosophy at Glasgow University, a post he held for 53 years.

Its interesting that the rear of the clock is signed in two places 'RARANGA' this ship was completed in 1916 and was a refrigeration ship which was damaged by torpedo in 26/06/1918 so at the alter end of World War 2 from U-Boat UC71, 10 miles off the Owers LV. Subsequently repaired and returned to service. It then in April 1919 it was used to Returned 1075 x troops from UK to Wellington, New Zealand. Finally, on 22/10/1950: Arrived at Blyth to be broken up by Hughes Bolckow Shipbreaking Co Ltd.

The movement is lovely and clean and is happily ticking away.

Overall a superb quality chain fusee ships / marine clock. The clock is complete with it's winding key.

The approximate MAXIMUM dimensions are :

- 9 inches (23 cm) diameter across the case

- 8 inches / 20.5 cm diameter across the dial.

- 4 3/4 inches / 12 cm deep

CONDITION:

The clock is in good working order and the case is in lovely condition. The movement is lovely and clean and the clock is happily ticking away. The chrome case is in very nice condition just age related marks and odd knocks commensurate with age and use. The dial is in original condition and has knocks and marks which can be seen in the photographs. The clock is complete with it's winding key. Please study photographs carefully as they form part of the description and condition, as what you view is exactly what you will receive.

This really is nice brass cased ships clock which would grace any home.
