We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Developed in the mid-eighteenth century, the square piano featured a rectangular cabinet with strings running horizontally across the keys. It became the dominant domestic keyboard instrument across Europe and Britain throughout the Georgian and Regency eras due to its compact rectangular footprint.

Cases were typically constructed from solid mahogany or mahogany veneers, often detailed with satinwood stringing or rosewood crossbanding. The action components utilised natural woods, wool felt, leather, and ivory or bone key tops mounted alongside ebony sharps.

Authentic period examples feature hand-painted or printed cartouches above the keyboard detailing the maker and location, turned or reeded legs with brass castors, and an internal soundboard with iron or wooden frame bracing typical of pre-cast-iron-era construction.

An antique square piano serves as a focal piece in a formal hallway, reception room, or drawing room. Due to its flat rectangular top when closed, it is frequently styled similarly to a large console table with framed art or decorative ceramics displayed above.

Maintain a stable indoor humidity level between 45% and 55% to prevent the timber cabinet and soundboard from cracking. Keep the instrument away from direct sunlight, radiators, and draughts, cleaning the cabinet using a dry microfibre cloth.
