Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian burr walnut box is a 19th-century storage vessel constructed using veneer cut from walnut tree growths, producing dense, swirling grain patterns. These boxes were commonly manufactured in Britain between 1837 and 1901 for storing jewellery, writing instruments, or personal correspondence.

19th-century boxes frequently combined hardwoods such as mahogany or walnut with burr veneers, mother-of-pearl inlays, brass bindings, and velvet or silk linings. Hinges and lock mechanisms were typically constructed from solid brass or iron.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, original brass mortise locks, natural wear on the base, and slight irregularities in the veneer indicative of historical craftsmanship rather than modern machine production.

An antique walnut box can be placed on an office desk, console table, or coffee table tray to provide surface contrast against modern materials like glass or polished stone while offering hidden storage for small items.

Maintain the veneer by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the box away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent veneer drying or fading.
