Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Imari porcelain originates from the Arita region in Japan, named after the port of Imari from which it was exported to Europe. It typically features a palette of underglaze cobalt blue combined with overglaze iron-red and gilding, incorporating intricate floral cartouches and geometric patterns.

These pieces were formed from high-grade kaolin ceramic clay and fired at high temperatures. Underglaze cobalt blue motifs were painted prior to the primary glaze firing, after which iron-red, enamel highlights, and gilding were applied overglaze during secondary lower-temperature firings.

Authentic 19th-century items display hand-painted brushwork with minor natural variation, asymmetrical panel layouts, and subtle wear along the unglazed base rim. Glaze surfaces may exhibit tiny pinholes or firing characteristics consistent with historical kiln production rather than uniform modern manufacturing.

An Imari ginger jar functions as a strong visual accent on a dark wood sideboard, console table, or fireplace mantel. The contrast between the cobalt blue and rust-red tones complements both minimalist contemporary palettes and traditional decorative schemes.

Clean the exterior dusting lightly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth to protect delicate overglaze enamels and gilding. Avoid using abrasive pads, chemical cleaners, or immersing the vessel in water, as moisture can enter fine surface crazing or degrade painted details.
