Description

Here we have a superb antique Edwardian Arts & Crafts Walnut ANGUS Office Chair Revolving Swivel Chair The chair is a nice shape with a fan shaped and pierced back splat which has a superb elegant appearance. The seat is upholstered and the edge of the upholstered seat is attractively embellished with lines of stud nails which sets the chair off beautifully.

The arms sweep down nicely. To the front an sides below the seat has been nicely shaped and detailed.

The chair is then raised on four shaped legs which are raised castors. The chair tilts back and the height of the chair can be altered up and down via a cog below the seat which is marked with the details 'ANGUS LONDON' and 'MFCRD IN U.S.A.' and 'No 8048'. Angus, London was an importer of American furniture, wholesale cabinet makers, desk makers, chair & couch manufacturers and office furniture manufacturers (fl.1879-1960). Angus was born in Scotland in 1847 and spent his early life in the U.S.A. This experience led him to recognise that the manufacture of furniture with American technology and British finishing touches could be a successful venture. In 1879 he established a firm importing American furniture at warehouses at 58 Holborn Viaduct, London, moving the following year to large premises at Wenlock Road, City Road.

This chair would look superb in any room in the home or equally in the office or boardroom. A lovely classic design.

The approximate MAXIMUM dimensions are:

- 41 1/2 inches (105.5 cm) high to top back when seat up

- 17 1/2 inches (44.5 cm) to seat when down / 19 1/2 inches (49.5 cm) to seat when up

- 23 3/4 inches (60.5 cm) wide across arms and 18 inches (46 cm) wide across seat between arm supports

- 22 1/2 inches (57 cm) deep across chair and 17 1/2 inches (44.5 cm) deep across seat

CONDITION: The chair is in super condition as can be seen from the photographs and has aged nicely just odd knocks and marks commensurate with age. There is a small split to a leg (see final photographs) which doesn't affect its functionality in any way, please see photographs. The chair swivels smoothly. The chair tilts back and the height of the chair can be altered up and down via a cog below the seat.
