A most unusual 19th century lady''s writing desk .
Can be used as a ladies dressing table.
Profusely carved with blind fretwork.
The lid opens to reveal a maple wood lined interior
with original plate mirror. The flanked wings open
in turn to reveal a gold tooled black leather skiver.
the whole surrounded by by 8 maple wood drwaers,
one containing original glass inkwells and pen tray,
one being a false or secret drawer.
Probably over painted, the original finish may have
been ebonised contrasting with extensive brass inlay
similar to boule work.
The whole raised on a cradle and four outswept legs
that again would have had brass inlaid lines
An interesting piece for total or part restoration.
