George James Antiques has dated this piece to the Georgian era.
The foreground is beautifully decorated in engraved scroll pattern and the centre bears a fine coat of arms ( the clan of Campbell.) The maker, Benjamin Smith, was patronized by Geo.III and Geo.IV and considered to be "The Royal Silversmith" of the period. The hallmarks are wonderfully clear and the weight is substantial: all in all, a really wonderful piece of antique silver in first-class condition.
