Antique Furniture Direct has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
The seat is upholstered in a faux suede fabric and is raised on four steeply swept legs which locate into a cast swivel mechanism, the legs terminating in brass and ceramic casters. Stamped with makers initials “CVS” to the underside of one leg.
Cornelius Vincent Smith was first listed in The Furniture Gazette in 1891 as, “the well-known upholstering manufacturer and art furniture maker” He was especially well known for his chairs. He had workshops in North West London at Osnaburgh Street and later at Hampstead Road.

Solid frame, with good colour and patina with wear and marks commensurate with age. The upholstery is good, having been newly recovered.
