Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An okimono is a Japanese decorative carving, larger than a netsuke, designed specifically for display in an interior setting such as a tokonoma alcove. These figures often depict deities, historical characters, folklore subjects, or everyday craftsmen.

Craftsmen predominantly used dense, fine-grained hardwoods such as boxwood (tsuge), cherrywood, and hinoki cypress. These woods allowed for precise detail work and developed a deep, lustrous patina over time with handling.

Authentic pieces display hand-tool marks beneath smooth finishes, natural wear around raised edges, and artist signatures (mei) incised into the base or back. The weight, deep amber patina, and depth of undercut carving details also indicate age and quality.

Small carved figures add texture when displayed on open shelving, integrated into glass vitrines, or placed atop a stack of art books on a sideboard. Their warm timber tones integrate seamlessly with both traditional study decor and minimalist contemporary spaces.

Dust gently with a dry, soft-bristled brush to clean deep crevices without snagging delicate details. Keep the carving away from direct sunlight, central heating radiators, and damp environments to prevent the timber from drying, cracking, or warping.
