Antique English Opaline Glass & Sterling Silver Vinaigrette C.1880

Description

Charming and beautiful in every way, this small Vinaigrette at first appearance looks to be a little perfume or scent bottle.

The blue glass is topped with a hinged sterling silver lid in the form of a flower's head, a Rose I think. Once the lid is opened the floral grille can be seen, again in a floral design. It is here that the contents would be smelt from to disguise the fowl odors of the Victorian streets.

The silver is unmarked, normal for this kind of piece, dates to around 1880. In excellent condition, measuring 1 3/8" in height.
