Large Edwardian Cut Crystal & Sterling Silver Vanity Jar by Henry Matthews - 1904

Description

A very handsome jar, a great size and very usable today; the perfect finishing touch to any bathroom, powder room or dressing table.

The base is made from a good heavy crystal beautifully cut in the highly sought-after hobnail cut. The lid is made from English sterling silver, hallmarked for Birmingham 1904, Edwardian in era. The makers initials HM are also present for the well renowned silversmith, Henry Matthews.

The top has a plethora of repousse or embossed decoration surrounding a domed central shield-shaped cartouche, perfect for engraving by your silversmith should you wish. Once removed, the interior of the lid reveals an opulent gilded finish.

Excellent condition, measuring 3 1/2" tall with a lid diameter measuring 3 1/4".
