Pair of late 19th century French porcelain lamps, with celadon coloured ground.
 
White Pate-Sur-Pate decoration on both sides. One side depicting dancing maidens with flowers and ribbons, whilst the other side depicts a central urn framed by laurel, berries and a swag.
 
Each vase has two ormolu handles, each depicting female figureheads
 
Ormolu band around the main body, each vase sits on a triple footed decorative base.
 
A beautiful, fine quality pair of lamps.
 
Pâte-sur-pâte is a French term meaning ''paste on paste''. It is a method of porcelain decoration in which a relief design is created on an unfired, unglazed body, usually with a coloured body, by applying successive layers of (usually) white porcelain slip (liquid clay) with a brush. Once the main shape is built up, it is carved away to give fine detail, before the piece is fired.
