A superb quality 19th Century black forest caved wood casket, having wonderful crisp carving throughout, the hinged top lifting up to reveal a large compartment space, has the original key and lock, the top itself has a multi moulded edge with floral carving and an oval plaque at the centre with an ornate carved scene of a fox on a rock formation looking down on a couple of birds, the front of the box there is a shaped panel depicting a hunting scene incorporating a fox and hound and various foliage, the back of the box has the same shaped panel but with floral carving and a rifle, with the sides of the box having a carved head of a fox one side and the other side a carved head of a hound, supported on carved scroll and floral feet. Lovely intricate carving and on great condition.
