Antique Furniture Direct has dated this piece to the 1870s.
It stands on three carved cabriole legs with central carved column. Stamped HB to the underside of one leg (Probably made by H Brooks).

Solid and sturdy, rises and falls smoothly. With original brass screw thread which works well. The upholstery is in good condition, newly recovered. An old well-executed mend to one leg where it meets the base (solid and sturdy).
