Crisp cast border decoration to the lid and sides.

The top bears inscription

Made Birmingham "B" 1825

Cased in original Moroccan leather box

Original gilding in great condition

Weight 88.4 grams

In 1825, Nathaniel Mills registered his punch mark "N.M" in a rectangle at the Birmingham Assay Office. This marked the beginning of his work as a solo silversmith. Mills was a prolific box maker in Birmingham who created silver and gold objects, including vinaigrettes, card cases, and snuff boxes. His work is known for its castle-top designs, which feature British landmarks engraved on the lids.
