We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Early 20th-century French cityscape paintings often portray urban life, Parisian boulevards, and historical architecture using fluid brushwork and atmospheric light. Artists of this era focused on capturing daily routines, market scenes, and civic landmarks during the Belle Epoque transition into modernism.

Artisans commonly employed oil, gouache, or watercolour paints on stretched canvas, wooden panel, or heavy paper mounted onto board. Frames were typically crafted from carved timber finished with gold leaf gesso or bronzed gilding.

Authentic period works feature artist signatures, characteristic brush technique, contemporary provenance marks, or gallery labels on the reverse. Examining the natural age-related cracking (craquelure) and frame construction can also help establish period authenticity.

A carved gilt-framed painting serves as a focal point when placed against neutral wall tones or dark backdrop paint. It pairs well with period furnishings in formal sitting rooms or creates contrast when combined with minimalist modern furniture.

Display the artwork away from direct sunlight, excess humidity, and direct heat sources to prevent pigment fading or wood warping. Light dusting with a soft, dry brush keeps the carved frame and glazing clean without disturbing delicate surfaces.
