Georgian Pollard Oak Writing Table by Gillows

A stunning George IV pollard oak antique writing table by the renowned furniture makers Gillows of Lancaster. The pillar end table has a wonderful figured pollard oak veneered top with decorative quarter turned moulded edge. The frieze has a turned moulded edge and two fitted mahogany lined drawers.

The table stands on two baluster turned columns with exceptional quality floral leaf carving and out swept legs terminating to pierced reptilian talon ball and claw feet with sunken brass casters.

The table is attributed to Gillows of Lancaster & London.

Similar examples of the foot carving can be seen in Susan E Stuarts book - Gillows of Lancaster and London 1730 - 1840. Page 263, plate number 267 and page 370, plate number GG15 - GG16.
