Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Biedermeier furniture originated in Central Europe during the early nineteenth century, focusing on clean lines, geometric forms, and prominent wood grains without excessive ornamentation. Art Deco later expanded on these principles, incorporating dramatic curves, figured veneers, and streamlined silhouettes.

Continental elbow chairs from this era frequently utilise fine hardwoods and decorative veneers, such as satinwood, walnut, or mahogany. Seats are traditionally upholstered using woven fabrics, damasks, or horsehair padding mounted on wooden frames.

Authentic satinwood seating displays a distinct golden colour with a shimmering, ribbon-like flame grain pattern. Genuine period construction features hand-cut mortise and tenon joints, subtle hand-carved armrest profiles, and natural wear patterns along the base of the legs.

A satinwood elbow chair functions effectively as a standalone desk chair, a hallway accent piece, or paired alongside a neutral sofa. The warm timber tones contrast against dark wall paint or complement muted contemporary colour palettes.

Satinwood finishes should be dusted regularly with a soft dry cloth and treated periodically with a high-grade beeswax polish to maintain moisture. Keep timber seating away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent veneer lifting or colour fading.
