Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Masons Ironstone is a vitreous earthenware patented by Charles James Mason in Staffordshire, England, in 1813. It was developed as a durable, heavy-weight alternative to imported Chinese porcelain, featuring vibrant hand-painted and transfer-printed designs.

Ironstone was produced by combining ground flint, slag, and clay, fired at high temperatures to create a dense, chip-resistant body. Patterns were typically transfer-printed in outline and subsequently enamelled by hand before receiving a clear protective glaze.

Authentic pieces frequently bear printed or impressed maker marks on the underside, such as Masons Patent Ironstone China. They also exhibit a slight blue or grey cast to the glaze and a heavy weight relative to fine bone china.

These decorative ceramics can be displayed on brass plate stands along a sideboard top, mounted on a dining room feature wall, or arranged on open shelving to introduce historical pattern and colour into modern interiors.

Antique ironstone should be washed by hand using warm water and mild detergent, avoiding abrasive pads. It must not be placed in dishwashers or microwaves, as thermal shock can induce crazing or damage hand-applied enamel and gilding.
