18th Century Neoclassical Sterling Silver Wine Coasters, Thomas Daniell

Description

Rare pair of antique sterling silver wine bottle coasters dating to the early George III period. Neoclassical style, having round hand-pierced bodies with geometrical and tureen style decoration, together with applied bead-edged top borders, and wood-turned bases.

Made by Thomas Daniell & John Wall and assayed for London, 1782.

Hallmarks are very rubbed. One coaster has an identifiable letter “g” for 1782, and the other coaster has faint “TD” over “W”, which corresponds to the mark of Thomas Daniell & John Wall.

11.5 cm internal diameter

One coaster in good antique condition with a small split in one place and small loss. Other coaster has a large area of loss and a smaller. Both a bit uneven in shape and showing wear to bases.
