Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The William IV style, spanning roughly 1830 to 1837, bridges the British Regency and Victorian eras. It is characterized by substantial proportions, bold curves, rich timbers such as mahogany and rosewood, and detailed hand-carved decorative motifs like acanthus leaves and scrolls.

Frame construction primarily utilised solid hardwoods, with mahogany, walnut, and rosewood being the most prevalent choice for visible show-wood. Internal structural elements often featured oak or pine, while upholstery incorporated traditional horsehair padding, steel coil springs, and woven fabrics.

Authentic pieces feature heavy timber construction with hand-carved elements, period-appropriate joinery such as mortise and tenon joints, and characteristic scrollwork or turned legs. Examining the underside often reveals historical tool marks, natural timber age, and original fixing methods.

A historical chaise longue functions effectively as a focal piece when offset against contemporary backdrops or minimalist schemes. Reupholstering in a clean, neutral or dark tonal fabric allows the carved timber frame to stand out while blending seamlessly into modern living spaces or bedrooms.

Carved mahogany should be dusted with a soft cloth and conditioned periodically with beeswax polish to preserve the timber finish and patina. Upholstery requires light vacuuming with a soft brush attachment and immediate spot-cleaning for spills using appropriate fabric cleaners.
