Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, European foundries and ceramic manufacturers in Bohemia, Austria, and France produced cold-painted terracotta sculptures. These pieces frequently depicted romanticised genre scenes, musicians, and classical figures, serving as popular decorative accents for bourgeois drawing rooms.

These figures were cast from refined clay, fired at low temperatures, and finished using cold-painting techniques rather than high-fire glazes. Details such as facial features, fabric textures, and accessories were hand-painted post-firing to create muted, naturalistic tones.

Authentic period examples generally display impressed maker stamps, model numbers, or foundry marks on the reverse or underside of the base. Additionally, natural age-related patination, slight pigment wear in high-contact areas, and detailed hand-carved finishing distinguish original works from modern reproductions.

A large figurine can serve as a focal point on a dark wood sideboard, console table, or deep windowsill. Pairing cold-painted terracotta with contemporary textures, minimalist ceramics, or natural stone creates an appealing juxtaposition between historic craftsmanship and modern design.

Cold-painted finishes are vulnerable to moisture and harsh chemical cleansers. Dust the surface gently using a soft, dry camel-hair brush, and avoid applying water or liquid polishes which may dissolve or strip the original painted pigments.
