This is a set of 6 Lambs of Manchester chairs c1850-70. Made from oak wiht ebony jewelling to the legs and having leather seats. They come from one of the best names in the Victorian period. Lamb of Manchester was founded by James Lamb (1816 – 1903), one of the leading cabinetmakers in Manchester. Acclaimed for his dedication to high quality construction and artistic design, he used only the finest quality materials and workmanship. His designers included Alfred Waterhouse, Bruce Talbot and Charles Bevan, who said he was the most aesthetically advanced furniture craftsman outside London at the time. Lamb of Manchester laid the foundations for the Arts & Crafts Furniture that was to follow. Lamb of Manchester is renowned for richly upholstered, finely carved Victorian dining chairs, armchairs and sofas, and the company was founded as a cabinet-making and upholstery workshop.

This gorgeous set of chairs are raised on red china castors to the fore with turned and reeded legs with the knop of the leg being inset with ebony jewelling. The seats are all upholstered in leather with turned and reeded supports above the main seat and back rests. To be back of the chair there is a hand grip to pull the chair in and out from the table. These chairs are both stamped with Lamb Manchester but also 28336 on them.
