Antique English Rare Victorian 19th century sterling silver-mounted glass monkey-form claret jug made by Richard Hodd & Son, London 1893.
Yellow glass body.
Clear glass tail-form handle.
Sterling silver hind paws and shoulder mount with hinged and chained head.
Buckled collar with German script and the name Lulu.
Realistically modelled as a seated monkey with yellow glass body, the head hinging at the mouth.
Engraved on the collar with the words from a German song: ''Ritt Gourmee, Lulu, Tapfer die ganze Nacht''.
Gilt interior.
Fully marked.

Of the very few examples of this model known, none feature the yellow glass body of the present lot. A clear glass bodied example of 1882 by the same maker, was sold Sotheby''s Belgravia, 15 December 1977, lot 369.
