Originating in 18th-century France, these tables feature elaborate carved wooden frames finished with gold leaf gilding and topped with a fitted slab of natural marble.

Frames were carved from dense hardwoods or softwoods, coated with gesso and gold leaf gilding, and completed with hand-shaped marble slabs.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-carving variations, natural wear to the gold leaf exposing the reddish bole or gesso layer underneath, and unpolished stone undersides.

Position the piece as an accent in a drawing room, hallway, or alcove, pairing it with neutral textiles and contemporary artwork to contrast the ornate detail.
