Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Canterbury is a low, compartmentalised wooden rack originally designed in late 18th-century England to store sheet music, named after the Archbishop of Canterbury who originally commissioned the style.

Regency Canterburys were typically crafted from fine hardwoods such as mahogany or rosewood, featuring turned corner posts, slatted dividers, a lower drawer, and brass castors.

Authentic 19th-century pieces usually exhibit hand-dovetailed drawer joints, period hand-turned spindles, original brass castors with natural oxidisation, and wear consistent with age around the base and partition tops.

An antique Canterbury functions well alongside an armchair or sofa, offering practical storage for contemporary magazines, oversized art books, or vinyl records while bringing historic character to the space.

Dust the timber regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and nourish the wood polish twice yearly with a natural beeswax paste, keeping the piece away from direct heat sources and sunlight.
