This is a tall antique female figure. An Austrian, bronzed plaster statue, dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1900.

Graceful milk maid figure, accompanied by an inquisitive lamb

Displays a desirable aged patina and in good order

Bronzed plaster from presents warm brown hues throughout

Substantial weight in the hand at 7.13kg (15.71 lb)

During the late Victorian era and the turn of the century, bronzed plaster statues became popular across Europe, particularly in Austria, as an accessible alternative to solid bronze works. Craftspeople cast plaster figurines and coated them with metallic bronzing finishes or cold-painted patinas to mimic heavy cast metal for interior display.

These sculptures were made using plaster of Paris cast in moulds, often reinforced internally with wire or tow fibres. Once dried, the surfaces were painted, gilded, or chemically treated with bronzing powders and lacquers to replicate metallic patination and depth.
