This 19th century lignum vitae tool was used to froth hot chocolate. It has three loose rings towards the neck which aid in the frothing process. Interestingly it has a detachable spike shaped tool which could have been for used for breaking up blocks of the chocolate blocks, sugar and spices before whisking.
The tool could have been used as a stirrer.
