An Attractive Late 19th Century Four Fold Leather Room Dividing Screen, With Extremely Attractive Chinoiserie Decoration To Panels, Incorporating People, Pagodas And Trees, With Gilt Decorated Brass Tack Borders And Fabric Covered Reverse To Panels.
A room dividing screen of relatively common design for throughout the 19th century which remains in relatively good condition. As is exceptionally common the leather panels have sustained some damage over the years of its life which have been sympathetically restored and this really causes no aesthetics issues at all.
The decoration is very attractive and nice quality and the leather has aged gracefully. The reverse of the panels have been very recently upholstered with a black calico type material and edged with braid meaning that should one wish to use this room dividing screen for its original purpose then all areas are finished more than acceptably.
We think however that a great use for this four panel screen is mounted flat to a wall, like a piece of art, it would really add to the room in a nice open space. The screen has mirror plates for attaching it to the wall and could be hung just about anywhere that one wishes very easily.
As with all items which we offer for sale it has received a quick clean and tidy, then natural wax polish in our workshops to ensure that it is ready for immediate placement following purchase.
