Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Introduced in the eighteenth century and widely produced throughout the Victorian era, hall chairs were designed for entryways to accommodate transient visitors. Because they were intended for short periods of sitting rather than relaxation, they featured unpadded wooden seats and highly decorative back panels.

Victorian hall chairs were crafted from dense hardwoods such as mahogany, oak, or walnut. Construction methods relied on traditional joinery techniques, including mortise and tenon joints, detailed hand-carved back splats, and turned front legs.

Authentic late Victorian examples exhibit signs of hand-carving combined with early machine work, natural timber oxidisation, and subtle wear on the solid seat surface. Look for period joinery beneath the seat frame and original patina within receded carving details.

Place a pair symmetrically on either side of a hall console table, or position a single chair in a corridor alcove to serve as a decorative accent. Their shallow depth makes them well-suited for narrow entryways without obstructing movement.

Dust the wooden surfaces regularly with a soft, dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish periodically to maintain the timber finish. Keep the furniture away from direct heat sources and high humidity to prevent timber movement or splitting.
