A 14inch wooden dial, wall clock with an attractive trunk of highly figured mahogany. Signed Gunter to the rear of the dial and the ''A'' shaped fusee movement stamped Thwaites 1041 which dates it to 1781. The dial signed Richard Gunter of London and most likely made this in 1781 or 1782. He is known for producing elegant clocks throughout the late Georgian period and he often bought in movements from Thwaites - a high quality movement supplier. The clock is very attractive and the choice of Mahogany and shaping of the lower door points to expert cabinet making. The Bezel is the earlier concave type which was cast and held with a lock and key.
