Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A candle stand is a small, functional occasional table developed during the late seventeenth and eighteenth centuries to support a single candle or candlestick. These pieces were designed to be lightweight and portable, allowing occupants to move artificial lighting to where it was required within domestic rooms.

Eighteenth-century candle stands were typically constructed from native hardwoods such as oak, walnut, or elm, and later mahogany. The turned central column was crafted on a lathe, and the tripod legs were attached to the base using hand-cut dovetail or mortise and tenon joints.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-worked tool marks on the underside, hand-planed surfaces, and original wooden pegging. Expect uneven wear on the turned column, natural shrinkage of the circular top along the grain, and deep patination accumulated from centuries of handling and wax application.

Due to their compact proportions, candle stands function well as small drink tables beside an armchair, sculptural displays for ceramics in a alcove, or plant stands in a brightly lit corner.

Maintain the finish by dusting with a soft, lint-free cloth and applying a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources such as radiators and out of prolonged direct sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage and cracking.
