This very attractive pair of later hand painted Georgian Demi Lune Console Tables are in excellent condition to enter any setting. They are wonderful examples of Demi Lune Console Tables from the Georgian era and have been updated with a Specialist Mottled Paint Antiqued and Distressed Finish; this is applied to the entire table using an Antique White background and the tops have a faux marble paint finish using tones in greys and whites. The proportions are pleasing and the tables stand well on their four square tapered legs with the classical spade foot which is a clear indicator of their Georgian origin.
We mix our palette of paint colours from those used within the Georgian era and also from various periods within Continental Europe, mixed according to our traditional recipe and applied by hand with great precision; our finish involves multiple techniques and differing consistencies and varied ingredients for each part of the process. Our Specialist Paint Finishes are designed to retain the historical charm and authenticity of the item whilst enabling use within our contemporary era. We describe the colours with more contemporary names, which we hope are accurately descriptive.
This is a very labour intensive system and the correct amount of time has to be allowed between each the different processes to ensure that we can establish that our quality remains consistently high. Due to the natural pigments within the wood from which each item is constructed and the individual processes there are inevitably some very minor variations in tone and an ex
...act colour match is not always possible.
Spade Foot
The spade foot is a signature feature in Georgian furniture, which emerged during the reigns of the first four King Georges of Britain (1714-1830). This furniture style is distinguished by its elegant and refined lines. Popularized by Chippendale in the mid-18th century, it gives a clean tapered look and is often found on the legs of chairs, tables and other pieces. This understated elegance reflects the Georgian era''s love for symmetry and proportion, often combined with rich wood like mahogany.
The spade foot is shaped like the blade of a spade or shovel (hence the name) and is a square or rectangular shape that is wider at the top and tapers to a narrow base and reflects the tapering design of the leg above. This antique furniture foot style continued to be used throughout the late 1700s and into the early 1800s in the Hepplewhite and Sheraton furniture eras.
There are perhaps over a dozen more styles of antique furniture feet that you can find in furniture from the 17th to 19th Century; the designs vary regionally and by cabinet or furniture maker, but they are helpful in indicating the time period and overall style.
