Description

Large late 19th century Chinese hand carved bamboo /softwood brush pot,c1880. This is an impressive example with carving to roughly two thirds of the surface area. The carving depicts scholars/wise men sitting under a tree on a rocky outcrop. The carving is well executed with fine detail to the figures and the the foliage on the tree etc. It has a nice natural and organic curved shape and the wood has taken on great colour/patina following many years of handling and use. Overall condition is good in line with age and use. There is a small split to the rim ,but very minor.
