An Extremely Attractive 19th Century Giltwood & Gesso Oval Wall Hanging Mirror, Having Attractive Ribbon Carved Surmount, Over Segmented Double Border Frame, With Superbly Carved Decoration Including Chased Husks, Beading And Four Elegant Carved Shells, Enclosing Old Bevelled Mirror Plates.
This extremely attractive and decorative mirror is really rather lovely. It would have been made during the height of the victorian period towards the mid to late 19th century, but it is executed in the 18th century style. It has much richer and better carving than most of the copies which we find from this late 19th century period.
The gilded itself is extremely attractive retaining a richness and lustre which can be difficult to find. Of course it has no doubt been touched up and lightly refreshed throughout the years, but it certainly doesn''t appear to have ever been totally regilded which is nice.
In terms of condition there are a few old marks, digs, breaks and scuffs as one would expect. We also believe the mirror plates themselves could be original, certainly they are old at the very least, but probably original.
There are no major structural defects or issues and it is relatively solid throughout, ready for immediate placement within the home following purchase.
