The dish features a raised border with a hand-chased wreath of various fruit and foliate motifs. Centrally, a figural battle scene is finely chased and engraved with great detail and meticulousness. The scene depicts the battle of Carravagio (15 September 1448) - Venetian commanders Ermolao Donato and Gerardo Dandolo refuse to save themselves against Francesco Sforza.The detail of the soldier''s armour and the height of the relief is a testament to its quality chasing work and creates a wonderful contrast and three-dimensional effect separated from its background.
