Canonbury Antiques has dated this French Tavern Oil Painting to the 19th Century.
Piece shows a scene in a tavern with the three figures in the foreground sat around a sherry cask

In the background are two more characters in the shade
The painting illustrates a great use of the technique of chiaroscuro with it's strong contrasts between light and dark
The use of chiaroscuro reminds me of the work of Italian artist Carvaggio

Comes in the gorgeous gilt frame
J De Ninville worked out of Paris in the 19th Century and his works are highly collectable
Great narrative piece very detailed brushwork, intricate and fine, the work of a skilled master

The signature is in the bottom right hand corner, please see close up photo
