Follower of Les Nabis French School c1910
A stylish painting of a Mediterranean landscape indistinctly signed and dating to around 1910.
Les Nabis were a group of post-impressionist French painters active at the turn of the 20th century. Their work is characterised by bold contours simplified drawing, striking colour and a Japanese vibe.
Some of its key members attended the Académie Julian in Paris, which offered a liberal alternative to the official École des Beaux Arts. Their bold simplified style was inspired by Paul Gauguin’s synthetism. They experimented using different supports (canvas materials) this particular painting is on a very rough canvas, possibly sack cloth.
