Rare Mid-19th Century Dutch Silver Peppermint Box, Netherlands 1834

Description

This is an exquisite and unusual 19th Century Dutch silver peppermint box. Of flared oval form, the textured sides imitating a woven basket. The fluted shell-shaped hinged cover opening to reveal the original rich gilt interior. The sides fitted with loop handles. Raised on a small spread pedestal base. The underside with Dutch hallmarks. The side of the lid with date letter.

Makers marks: AK

Lion Passant second standard mark (833/100).

Date letter "Z" for 1834.

Dimensions:

Height: 3.5cm / 1.4 inches.

Width: 4.5cm / 1.4 inches.

Depth: 3cm / 1.2 inches.

Condition:

Good.

Good hinge.

No repairs.

Minor unevenness, commensurate with age and use.
