A superb quality early to mid-Victorian period mirror back chiffonier, or sideboard. Bearing the makers stamp for C. Hindley and Sons of Oxford Street. Of generous proportions and very well constructed in solid walnut with attractive burr walnut veneers. The mirror back is embellished with a beautifully carved pediment. The base section has a pair of cupboard doors flanked by open shelved convex ends. All flanked by architectural columns. The doors are fitted with mirrors, carved decorations and open to reveal a shelved interior. The doors are lockable (key supplied). The mirrors are all fitted with their original silver mecury plates. Cleaned and waxed in our workshops. Now offered for sale in excellent condition with a lovely colour and patina. Splits into 2 sections for ease of installation.

C Hindley and Sons were furniture makers of Oxford Street, London, England who traded from 1766-1898. The company (the C stands for Charles) were notable quality London fine furniture, rug and floor cloth manufacturers (Furniture History Society, Dictionary of English Furniture Makers, pp. 433 & 606) who took over the firm of Miles & Edwards, cabinetmakers, of 134 Oxford Street in 1844. Thereafter, they established trade at the Oxford Street premises where their business as high quality cabinet makers flourished, earning them a Royal Appointment, and a part in the Great Exhibition.
