A fine pair of Victorian Minton majolica figures as match holders or figural salts. Known as the Hogarth boy and girl, designed by Albert Carrier-Belleuse. Modelled as a young lad and lady in traditional dress, seated on rocks and holding oval baskets under their arms. Typical rich Minton majolica colours and highly glazed.
Fully marked to the base and both with the date code for 1872.
They measure 18.5cm (7 1/4'') high.
Condition is very good: there has been some excellent invisible restoration to the girl''s neck and also to her left hand and inside the base of the basket. Otherwise no damage or repair and very minor handling wear.
