Art Deco Mirror

1920 - 1940
Description

A rare and unusual Art Deco mirror in the Barbola mirror style.

The Barbola mirror style originated in England in the 1920s as a way to imitate expensive wooden carvings. The term “Barbola” comes from embroidery, where a fabric stiffener is used to mold flowers instead of wires.

This bevelled edged mirror with a floral decorative panel to the top with each flower carved from wood and hand painted. A carved arabesque style frieze to each side of the floral decoration and to the base of the mirror a carved frieze in the Art Deco style.

Some fogging to the mirror commensurate with age, but no chips.
