King William III of England by William Faithholmr Jnr (1670-1703) after Sir Godfrey Kneller (1646 -1723)
This shoulder length portrait of King William III depicts the monarch wearing the robes of the Order of the Garter.
William Faithorne Jnr was a mezzotint engraver working in the late Stuart Period. The majority of his work are portraits after paintings by Kneller and Lely, the most fashionable artists of the late Stuart court.
Sir Godfrey Kneller was court painter from the reign of Charles II to George I. As well as his royal portraits his most famous work are the portraits of the Kit-Kat Club.
This fine and richly coloured impression is housed in a rare hand carved and gilded auricular style frame.
