After Paul Manship 1885-1966, Atalanta Patinated Bronze on Brass Sculpture 72cm .
After Paul Howard Manship (1885-1966 New York) ''Atalanta'' Patinated Bronze over Brass Sculpture. Unsigned.
A striking classical female sculpture of imposing presence and superb scale.
A fine quality, large tabletop sculpture of Greek Goddess Atalanta, Princess of Arcadia, holding a ribbon as she strides, atop a dome sphere with dolphin motif banding.
An accurate cast of the original Atalanta from 1921, now on permanent exhibition at Smithsonian Art Museum, Washington.
A well cast, patinated bronze sculpture which may contain a mixed metal of brass, traces of brass can be seen in small areas of scratches etc.., this is not spelter. The original Atalanta was produced 1921, we believe this to be a little later circa 1930-1950, tbc.
Please note that she is missing the extended section of ribbon which flows above her head and across her shoulder, see photos, we have this section and it is
...easily soldered on, available as she is with the ribbon section, we might remove listing and consign to the workshop to undertake the repair and relist at higher price, until then available as she is. The ribbon slides over her shoulder and requires soldering to her hand, a minimal repair.
Measures approx 72cm tall extending to 86cm with ribbon attached x 70cm length x 24cm base,
Moderate wear and dirt accumulation from outdoor display, overall good condition with no dents or other defects, she stands well.
