Youngs Antiques has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
The surface of the chest has a lovely rich patina and when you open the lid the interior has a pleasant sweet smell from the rosewood timbers. There are some minor losses to some of the brass work, and the double locks do work, however they don't retract properly, so it would be advised not to lock the chest at present, the locks would need to be assessed by a compitent locksmith.
Overall the chest is in fantastic condition and is a lovely decorative piece.
