A highly unusual early 19th century silver and paste stone set Danish ‘Hovedvansaeg’ – a vinaigrette/spice box, traditionally a betrothal gift. Urn shape with an amazing open-work orb finial, on a raised foot which is also the hinged spice compartment (it is also said that this lower compartment was for keeping a coin to put in the church collection), set with numerous brightly coloured faceted glass paste stones on to the body, the handles and the finial. Opens to reveal the original silver-gilt interior. Struck to the base with a maker’s ‘T.S”. Fab collector’s thing.
Condition: In really good collector’s condition, both lids open and shut firmly. One or two of the stones with abrasions.
Dimensions: 110 x 62 x 34mm. 78g.
