19th Century French Silver Fitted Sewing Companion for a Child, Circa 1820

Description

This exquisite French sewing set for a child dates circa 1860. The glass egg-shaped case with gilt metal mounts. The domed hinged cover engraved with foliate sprigs. The teal velvet interior with silver handed stiletto, silver needle case, silver thimble and steel scissors.. The base lined with teal moire silk.

Hallmarks:

Small French guarantee mark on stiletto and needle case.

Thimble unmarked but tested as silver.

Length: 7cm / 2.4 inches.

Case: 9cm x 6cm approx. / 3.4 inches x 2.3 inches.

Height of case: 2.5cm / 1 inch.

Condition:

The silver tools are in good condition.

The box is in very good condition, snaps shut nicely.
