Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in 18th-century Britain, a combined tea and card table is a multi-functional piece of social furniture designed during the reign of King George II. It features multiple folding leaves allowing it to serve as a side table, a polished surface for tea service, or a baize-lined surface for card play.

These tables were predominantly constructed from dense Cuban or West Indian mahogany, valued for its grain density and stability. Secondary woods like pine or oak were used for internal drawer linings, while iron hinges and hand-cast brass hardware provided structural functionality.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-sawn dovetail joints on drawers, hand-hammered brass fittings, and uneven timber shrinkage consistent with age. Legs typically show hand-carved details such as cabriole curves ending in pad or claw-and-ball feet, alongside a gate-leg or concertina support mechanism.

When folded, these tables function as elegant console tables against a wall, ideal for supporting a modern lamp or framed artwork. Positioned in an entryway or living space, the dark mahogany timber creates visual contrast against neutral plaster or painted walls.

Maintain timber patination by dusting regularly with a clean, soft microfibre cloth and applying natural beeswax annually. Keep the table away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent wood shrinkage, warping, or colour fading.
