A solid gold Victorian vesta case with Chester hallmarks. The vesta is a classic smoothly polished design no engraving and has a lovely subtle warm tone to the gold. The strike at the base is well defined with a good texture. A simple raised thumb catch help to ease the lid open, and the lid is spring loaded to snap back firmly with a satisfying click.
A lovely quality Victorian vesta case, and a great collectors piece.
Hallmarked inside the lip of the vesta for Chester, 1898 with makers mark for William Neale & Sons. The lid is hinged at one side and is also marked 375 for 9ct gold inside. There is a loop at one side for attachment.
Condition: In good antique condition. There is fine surface wear totally commensurate with age and one or two small slightly deeper scratches but only noticeable under scrutiny, mentioned for total accuracy.
