The vase is made from Wedgwood’s signature Ivory Vellum ceramic, known for its smooth, matte surface. It is meticulously hand-painted with detailed depictions of hop leaves and cones, complemented by intricate naturalistic patterns in red, green, and gold. Both sides feature elegant foliate handles, adding to its refined aesthetic.
This vase is a rare example of Wedgwood’s late 19th-century craftsmanship, blending intricate design with artistic symbolism. The base bears the official Portland Vase Wedgwood brand mark, introduced in 1878 as a tribute to the company's renowned replica of the Roman Portland Vase in the British Museum.
